I feel that caring for patients involves working with each person to achieve good health, to prevent the development of health problems as much as possible and to treat acute and chronic illnesses to the best of my ability.

I enjoy working with patients of all ages and I am capable of dealing with a wide variety of problems.  I want my patients to feel comfortable talking to me about anything that affects their health status.  Caring for the whole person is what family medicine is all about.

Range of Practice

Family Physicians have a broad range of training and experience. I care for patients of all ages including infants, children, adolescents, adults (including prenatal care and delivery) and the elderly. I also have extensive experience in obstetrical care and in gynecology, including colposcopy (evaluation and treatment of abnormal Pap smears.)

My practice emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education, diagnosis and the treatment of acute and chronic illnesses in a variety of health care settings. I apply modern techniques to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the vast majority of common illnesses and injuries.

I feel that doctor-patient communication is important and encourage the role of the patient as a partner in health care. I get to know you and become familiar with your medical history, help coordinate your health care needs by serving as a patient advocate in all health related matters, including the appropriate use of consultants, health services and community resources. In my practice I strive for continuity of care for you and your family.

John P. Barsanti, M.D.

My interest in medicine is broad in range, so family medicine was my choice.  As a family doctor, I see patients through all stages of life, and work with them in a close relationship.  Although health care is a serious business, it is important to me to put patients at ease and have fun getting to know them in a relaxed manner.  I encourage my patients to talk to me about anything affecting their health, not necessarily just physical symptoms.  I enjoy teaching, and try to explain things to patients in terms that make sense to them.

Range of Practice

Full spectrum of Family Practice, including obstetrics & pediatrics.

I went into medicine because I felt it was the best way I could develop my talents and skills, and give something back to the community.  The intrinsic rewards of this profession lie in trying to make a positive difference in patients' lives, one patient at a time.  As a family doctor, I get to see a diverse population of patients throughout all stages of life.  I think patients deserve a flexible approach, so their individual needs can be understood and met, and in an unrushed atmosphere, to invite open, honest discussion.

People are more than just a collection of body parts.  That is why I chose to practice family medicine.  I think it is important to take into consideration all aspects of a person's life when dealing with health: mind, body, and spirit.  I believe in meeting patients where they're at and working with them to address their health needs.  I enjoy the full scope of family medicine including pregnancy, kids, women's health, and in-office procedures.

I still really enjoy caring for babies, but I gave up delivering babies in 2011. My practice is aging with me so I care for quite a few older patients although I enjoy people of all ages.  My travels have led to an interest in travel medicine so I am a  resource for my partners when their patients are travelling to exotic places.  I do 2nd and 3rd class FAA pilot physicals and supervise our clinics' bone density scanners.  I have a certification in cosmetic lasers and do laser to remove hair and treat skin for texture problems like wrinkles, scars and stretch marks.

    Special Interest

I have traveled around the world with my husband to Australia, Asia, Africa and many places in North and Central America. We enjoy camping, hiking and scuba diving, but stay in town most summers to tend to a large garden and chickens.  I really enjoy working with people to develop healthy habits.

My interests in teaching, science and working with people led me into a career in medicine.  I appreciate the wide variety of patients and medical conditions I can treat as a family medicine doctor.  I see my role as guiding patients towards the best health practices, but also being tolerant when they fall short.

    Range of Practice

My specialty is Family Practice - which means I spent 3 years following medical school learning the skills necessary to take care of a wide range of patients - including taking care of babies (although I no longer deliver them), children, adolescents and adults of all ages. I enjoy all aspects of my practice - well person exams with discussion about health maintenance, disease prevention, exercise, diet and other health promotion advice, treating most common acute illnesses and injuries, monitoring and treating chronic illnesses (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma and heart disease), acting as an adviser and advocate when interaction with other parts of the health care system are required (hospitals, consultants, specialists, community agencies). I try to be available in the office for appointments (usually same day as needed) and available by phone. I do have some early morning, lunch hour and evening appointments during the week to facilitate availability.
I practice with equally well trained and capable providers both at my clinic location and in our group as a whole.

I have been a family nurse practitioner for more than 15 years. I enjoy seeing women and hope to encourage better health habits despite our busy lifestyles. How can we balance family and job demands and exercise every day? I love caring for the family. Knowing the parents, children and grandparents allow for an understanding of likely struggles and available support systems. We are not isolated from others expectations and demands, but it is important to see how we can fit our life within these, and allow ourselves to shine!

I have adopted three boys from Liberia and in the process have developed an understanding of the trials of parenthood. I enjoy sharing resources that I have found to be helpful and techniques that promote change through parenting differently.

    Range of Practice

I have been a certified Family Practice Nurse Practitioner since 1997 and have worked in the nursing field since 1990.  My services include treatment of both acute and chronic illnesses and preventative medicine to pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

    Personal Interests

I am an active member of Park Avenue Methodist Church in Minneapolis. I love to sing in the choir, the car, the shower etc. I enjoy hiking, gardening and even enjoy Minnesota winters! I enjoy spending time with my boys and spending time alone, depending on the day.

I truly love being a family physician.  Not only do I have the honor of helping parents bring their beautiful children into this world, but I support families throughout the joys and challenges of newborn care and child development thereafter.  I have two young children of my own and have my fair share of humorous and adventurous stories to share!

I know that it is important to families that they get a large amount of support during pregnancy and their labor.  That's why I give my pregnancy patients priority during my clinic hours and attend all of my deliveries.  If you have questions about planning a family or a current pregnancy concern, please just call me for a one-on-one conversation!

    Range of Practice

Pregnancy, Pediatrics, Sports medicine and Adult medicine.  I am also fluent in Spanish.

    Personal Interest

I love to go on nature walks and fishing with my 4-year-old daughter!  I also love to run 5K races with my wonderful wife and dig for worms in the garden with my son.  If I have extra time, I will help my Dad with is beehives.  I have been a beekeeper too.

The part of family medicine I enjoy most is the unique opportunity to develop ongoing relationships with patients. This enables me to know my patients as people and treat the whole person rather than a specific medical condition. This is one of the many things that draws me to family practice.  I believe in educating and working with patients, thus empowering them to make healthy choices.  I strive to provide care and guidance you can rely on and I look forward to seeing you in clinic.

My journey in healthcare and helping others began at a young age.  In high school, I joined the ambulance services as a First Responder in my rural community.  Working side by side with the volunteer EMTs, I experienced their absolute dedication and commitment to their community's wellness.  I have been working in the medical field and increasing my medical academics since.  After achieving my BSN, I spent six years as a pediatric RN.  During this time, I chose to pursue a doctorate as a family practice nurse practitioner.  While obtaining my doctorate over the course of four years, I worked in an emergency department.  Education has been and is a huge part of my life and is reflected in my work with my patients.  I take every opportunity to provide education, knowledge, and tools for my patients to be able to better care for themselves, be an active participant in their healthcare and lead the healthiest lives they can.  I have made it my life's goal to deliver the highest quality of care and commitment to my patients, families, and the community, every day.

I am excited to be part of Entira Family Clinics-Eastside. I will provide the full spectrum of Family Medicine.  For me, one of the main benefits of being a family doctor is being able to take care of everyone in the family from birth onward. Having multiple connections over time is a great way to build strong, therapeutic relationships that support the whole family. I enjoy working with both families who have been in Minnesota for generations, and those who are new to our state!

I believe understanding our bodies it critical to leading healthy lives. It is very important to me that patients feel that they understand their medical issues and health care plan. In order to meet this goal, I try to emphasize teaching in all my visits.
